MVNT Secures MegaGrant from Epic Games
We are excited to share that MVNT has been selected as a recipient of the Epic MegaGrant, part of Epic Games' $100 million fund supporting innovative projects within the Unreal Engine ecosystem.
For us, this is a milestone moment. The grant will accelerate development of the Unreal Dance Editor (UDE) — our music-conditioned dance animation tool, powered by MVNT AI — and deepen our continued research into Dance Intelligence.
A new instrument for movement creation
Throughout history, every new technology has eventually unlocked a new art form. The camera enabled Impressionism. The synthesizer enabled EDM. We believe Dance Intelligence is the moment dance — humanity's most natural instinct for expression — finally gets its native digital tool.
Powered by MVNT AI, the Unreal Dance Editor generates production-ready dance animation in seconds through a native music-to-dance model. Choreography that traditionally required weeks of motion capture and manual editing can now be created in real time, directly inside Unreal Engine — opening new possibilities for avatar content, music visualization, virtual performances, world design, and beyond.
UDE beta is currently available on the Fab marketplace.
Why dance is the hardest frontier in animation tech
Dance generation and editing has long been considered one of the most challenging problems in animation. It demands three-dimensional motion data, multi-modal alignment between music and movement, and the kind of intuitive, emotional, physical expressiveness that has historically resisted being programmed.
While creative tools and AI continue to reshape the modern entertainment landscape, dance has remained largely untouched by this wave — too instinctive, too embodied, too musical to fit cleanly into the existing toolchain. We started MVNT because we believed that gap was worth closing.
The support of Unreal Engine has been foundational from day one. Working within the Unreal Engine ecosystem has allowed us to build, train, label, ship, run, and edit vast amounts of dance data inside a single environment — collapsing what would otherwise be a fragmented research-to-production pipeline into one cohesive workflow.
What this means for creators
By bringing Dance Intelligence directly into Unreal Engine, MVNT is removing the technical and creative barriers that have kept high-quality dance animation in the hands of large productions. Our goal is simple: make dance accessible, expressive, and free for every creator.
What's next?
With the support of the Epic MegaGrant, MVNT will focus on two pillars:
- Advancing Dance Intelligence — through continued data acquisition, motion taxonomy work, and model training in collaboration with our network of professional choreographers.
- Refining the product experience — so that UDE and mvntSTUDIO become intuitive instruments for movement creation: expressive enough for professionals, accessible enough for anyone.
Research updates and feature releases will continue to be shared in our Discord community.
Acknowledgments
We are grateful to Epic Games for their belief in our work, and we are honored to be featured alongside legacy projects such as the Blender Foundation, Cascadeur, and the broader community of teams advancing the open 3D and animation ecosystem. We would also like to recognize Motorica for the inspiration their work has provided to the dance and motion research community.
Most of all, this milestone belongs to the MVNT team — whose craft, persistence, and conviction made it possible.
About Epic MegaGrants
Launched in 2019, Epic MegaGrants is a $100 million program from Epic Games designed to accelerate creative and innovative projects built in and around Unreal Engine, as well as initiatives that strengthen the open-source 3D graphics ecosystem. Read more about MegaGrants here.
